Play with me Dad

I've been hearing that a lot lately and it bothers me who many time I've had to say "not now" or "in a little bit". They want to spend time with me. They value my input. They want to connect in some way and yet I find many excuses to do something else that seems important at the time. I know this is going to change little by little and probably completely change when they get car keys but I still need to do the things that are required to get by in this world.

I'm writing this on my way out west for business that is important if I want to continue to be economically viable and provide the food, shelter and a college education. I just can't stop thinking about the little playtimes I get with them during a normal busy week of school and work.

They are going to be 7 next month and my play time is rapidly evaporating and I want to get as much of it as I can, while I can. I guess another tactic might be to become such a good playmate now that they will still want to play with me when I'm old and on my second or third knee replacement.

Note to self, I need to make sure I drop whatever I'm doing often enough now when I hear the request to play to let them know its the most important thing I do everyday. Maybe that will keep them asking for years to come.

Can't wait to get back and battle the little jedi's with light sabers or race them in Mario Kart. Maybe I'll insist on playing with them.
