Whiffle

Before hitting in the cage you have to hit the whiffle ball off the tee. The rain/snow finally broke and the sun is out for some baseball practice. The fields are still a mess but the grassy areas and batting cage are usable.

Appliances

The drier broke last night and with the replacement I bought today we have replaced all major washing appliances in the past 60 days. The dishwasher went first, followed by the washing machine a week later and now the drier. The dryer was the oldest of the trio at about 9 years, the washing machine was 7 years old and the dishwasher was 6. So, 3k for all new stuff and a contest to see which one goes the out first. I really hope I can get more out of these than I did with the last ones. It's sad that these machines last such a short amount of time.

Good Team

This is a talented group of boys. They lost today but they will get some wins. Dylan and Sam both had some nice passes and shots on goal. They just couldn't connect for a goal. Sam also played a nice half in goal. He's tough to score on.

Instagram

Following Finn's lead and some of the kids at school I've set the boys up with an Instagram accounts. Let the social media games begin. I hope they behave and I don't have to take it away. I did sit them down and explained the rules and consequences for breaking them. I also explained the trouble they could get into in general with inappropriate use which in some cases could mean jail. That got their attention.

Anyway, they now have email addresses as well. I'll send you relatives the addresses so you can send them a little welcome to cyberspace note. (Cyberspace is a pretty dated term, isn't it)

More Snow?

Hard to believe that we are getting even more snow today. This is the latest we've had snow and below freezing temps this late in March for a long time. Our average high for this time of year is 60 but it is allowing me to have more fires which isn't such a bad thing. Baseball season is going to have to wait till the ground drys out.

Batting

Some time with the whiffle ball and in the cage. We met the coach for the first time and he has a great attitude with a ficus on fun and learning not winning at all costs. I don't know if the team will be good but they should have a good time.

The Pitch

The fields have dried off and the boys have soccer practice this morning and hitting practice this afternoon. We are back on the two sport train.

What The?

Doesn't this little flower in our yard look like it's checking out the snow and saying, "dude, it's my turn"

End of Season Party

The basketball season got together for a party to end the a semi successful season. The did win a holiday tournament but had a horrendous losing streak to close things out. There is a good chance the majority of the boys will be together next year and with some work this summer, they will be in a good place. Nicole made the cake again, it was a hit.

New Season

Spent some time in the batting cage today in preparation for league assessments tomorrow night. They were a little rusty but got back in the swig of this fast. We also went back out and threw the ball around a bit. Their arms are much better this year. They both throw really hard and can toss it quite a ways. They are the younger kids in on the team this year. The majors are 11 and 12 year olds. They may play outfield more and will need those arms.

Hoth Battle

The boys spending the snow day on Monday reenacting a scene from Star Wars. The snow is almost gone again and we are looking at 70 degrees this Tuesday. I think winter is pretty much gone in these parts. It won't stop me from burning wood for another month. I just got a fresh cord of the stuff.

Anniversary Dinner

Nicole and I went about a mile away from the house to Brabo in old town last night for dinner. We left the boys to figure out dinner for themselves and to not destroy anything. We were gone about two hours and everything worked out well at home. Schools are closed again today. I'm at work but will head home early so that Nicole can attend a meeting on the afternoon.

In like a Lion

Here comes another one for us.  I know we have had it relatively easy compared to Minnesota and Philly but it looks like another day off school and some another day of working from home.  This storm comes with the possibility of ice and the loss of power but I just got another big load of wood delivered.  I burned an entire cord (4 rows, eight feet long and four feet high)  and had a whole cord delivered this morning

We went to Modell's today and picked up all the stuff for baseball season.  New shoes, a glove for Sam and other stuff.  We picked up stuff for soccer last week and I think we are ready for the two new sports seasons coming up.  Basketball ended with a thud but their is new hope on the diamond and pitch.  We did go out the the park and threw the ball around a bit today and the boys arms are in really good shape.  They can really toss the ball hard and far.  Gotta get them in the cage soon.
