Varsity Blues
The battle of the birds (Eagles vs. Hawks) was happening at the same time as the freshman game so I missed Sam get his first varsity minutes, a block and rebound. He didn't get a lot of time but he knew that going into the season. He's a freshman. Both boys have games on Friday, thankfully at different times. Edison lost by 5.
Young Eagles
The Freshman and Varsity teams played at the same time in different high schools on Tuesday. I watched Dylan play the Hawks at Hayfield and Nicole watched Sam playing Hayfield at Edison. This is a rivalry due to the fact that the schools are about 4 miles apart and most of the kids on the teams have played basketball, soccer, football and a kinds of sports together in the many club leagues in the area. The Hayfield freshman team has 3 kids that played on the boys travel basketball team the last 4 years. They all had fun but the eagles lost by 11.

Empire State
It's been an eventful Thanksgiving in NYC but it's time to head home to work, school and basketball. The boys, Gil and I shot over to Brooklyn to see the Gopher's Men's Basketball Team beat UMass today. It was fun to see them play in tiny LIU gym. Maybe only a thousand people in attendance in a gym similar to high school size.

The Beginning
It's very possible that we are just starting a 4 year journey of basketball at Edison High School. Madness in the Nest was last night where they introduced the varsity teams and had a bunch of other fan participation activities. It as fun to see Sam run out during the introduction with a bunch of screaming high schoolers cheering him on. I hope Dylan get that in the next couple years as well.

Scrimmage
We took a nice, long drive to Manassas Park last night at rush hour and while got to the high school about 10 minutes late for the freshman game, we actually beat the bus with the players on it. It was a long evening but all three Edison teams won with Dylan scoring 5 in the Freshman game and Sam getting a few rebounds, a block and a fair number of minutes in the Varsity game. They both looked good out there.

High School Ballers
Just a few years ago they were little travel ball players. They learned enough the last four years to make their high school basketball team. Dylan on the Freshman squad and Sam on Varsity. We were all surprised Sam was asked to join the Varsity team, including Sam. We thought JV was likely but Varsity was a stretch. He's nervous but enjoying it after two practices. He won't see as many minutes on the floor but will learn a lot going up against the best. I'm looking forward to watching all 40 or so games this season and watching them grow as young men and ballers.
